Halloween will look a little different this year as the Coronavirus has put a halt to trick-or-treating and many events are cancelled or have strict social distancing protocols. But that doesn’t have to take away from the fun! Here are 5 activities that you and your kids can enjoy in and around Malibu, or simply from the comfort of your own home.
1. Halloween Drive-In Movies at the Chili Cook Off Lot
Age: All
Location: Malibu Chili Cook Off Lot – 23575 Civic Center Way, Malibu, CA 90265
Admission: Free, but reservations are required and all donations go to Woolsey Fire recovery
When: Friday, October 30 – Saturday, October 31
Time: 7pm Friday and Saturday
The Malibu Film Society is hosting a drive-in movie screening on Halloween weekend at The Malibu Chili Cook Off lot. Bring your whole family to watch The Nightmare Before Christmas on Friday and Ghostbusters on Saturday. You can support local restaurants by pre-ordering pre-boxed food from local restaurants including Duke’s, Kristy’s, D’amores, Sweet Bu and more. Vehicles are required to be at least 6 feet apart and all proceeds from ticket sales will go to Woolsey Fire recovery.

2. Underwood Family Farms – Fall Harvest on the Farm

Admission: $8 tickets sold at the gate for Monday-Friday | $15 tickets sold online only for Saturday-Sunday
When: Thursday, October 1 – Saturday, October 31
Time: 9am-6pm
50 acres of fun for the whole family with a country store, large pumpkin patch, wagon rides, animal viewing, photo opportunities, and more! Food trucks will be available outside of the farm.

3. Tina’s Pumpkins, Petting Zoo, and Pony Rides

Admission: Free + free parking

- Food for Petting Zoo Animals: $1
- Train ride: $3

Time: 10am-8pm Monday-Friday | 9am-8pm Saturday-Sunday
Multiple activities for the kids including a pumpkin patch, pony rides, petting zoo, train rides, and a straw maze!
4. CDC Approves of 3 Households for Private Gatherings
Age: All
Location: Your home!
Admission: None
When: Anytime
Time: Anytime
An LA County Health order was issued to allow private gatherings of 3 households at a time given certain safety measures are met. These protocols include:
- Gatherings must be held outdoors
- 2 hours or less
- Masks must be worn unless eating or drinking
- Social distancing from the other households
- No shared food
- Any future gatherings should only include members of the same three households
This does not include institutional or commercial housing such as hotels, dorms, fraternities, etc.

5. Treat Town App
Age: All
Location: Your iPhone!
Admission: Free, with the exception of virtual candy purchases
When: Thursday, October 1 – Saturday, October 31
Time: Anytime
MARS, the founder of candy brands such as M&M’s, created an app for kids to trick-or-treat with neighbors, virtually! Help your kid create an avatar with a virtual door and invite families and neighbors to exchange treats with. Kids can even trade virtual candy for real candy such as M&M’s, Skittles, Snickers, and more!
