“Modern Family” producer Steven Levitan listed his Malibu, California, beach house Tuesday for just under $16 million.
Contemporary Californian architecture meets the classic Cape Cod style in the 6,700-square-foot home. Boasting six bedrooms and seven bathrooms, it overlooks the surf and sand of the Pacific Ocean, as well as Catalina Island, the Channel Islands and Point Dume.
“There are ocean views from almost every room,” according to listing agent Tony Mark of the Mark & Grether Group, part of Compass Malibu. He shares the listing, first reported by the Los Angeles Times, with Russell Grether, also of the Mark & Grether Group; Kimberley Pfeiffer of Compass Malibu/Dream Homes of Malibu; and Donald Richstone of Coldwell Banker Malibu.
The home is built on multiple levels, Mr. Mark noted, standing taller than its neighbors. That allows residents and guests to get glimpses of both the sunrise and the sunset from its terraces and through its oversized windows and retractable doors.
Plus, the beach is just steps away, and the property boasts 50 feet of beach frontage, Mr. Mark said. The lot is also larger than many in the area, with 250 feet of depth.
Mr. Levitan, 58, and his family purchased the home in 2002 for $5.4 million, according to property records. They had the home remodeled to make it a “showcase,” Mr. Mark explained.
“It’s difficult to find a designer-done, move-in ready home right now because there’s been so much going on in the market,” he said.
The main floor features an open layout with two reception areas, one with a fireplace and a formal dining area. There’s also a gourmet kitchen with dual ranges and a breakfast bar, plus a separate pantry and prep area, according to the listing. There’s also an interior courtyard.
Upstairs, the master suite has double-height ceilings, as well as a private roof deck, a sitting area with a fireplace, a fitness loft, a dressing room and an en-suite bathroom, according to the listing.
There are also two complete guest suites, equipped with kitchenettes, bathrooms and ample closet space, Mr. Mark noted. Other amenities include an elevator, a three-car garage and off-street parking for an additional three vehicles, according to the listing.
Mr. Levitan has produced several hit American television shows in addition to “Modern Family,” including “Just Shoot Me!,” and “Wings.” He’s also a screenwriter and director with several Emmy Awards to his credit.
The family has “fond memories” of the home, but “are ready for the next owners to write a new story within its beautifully crafted walls,” they said in a statement.
