Dear Friends and Residents of Malibu,
There are no words for what has happened to the place that we call home. Some homes were spared while other neighborhoods are unrecognizable. Amidst the heartbreak, we have seen the incredible bravery of the neighbors who stayed behind and the loving support of a community in kind words, donations, and prayers.
Malibu Evacuee Meeting in Santa Monica
At Santa Monica High School on November 12th, we joined other Evacuees to finally get some information and wanted to pass what we learned along to you.
– Open areas (Updated November 13th): Pacific Coast Highway from Carbon Canyon Road (east) to Webb Way (west), from the ocean to the northern City limit, and neighborhoods of Serra Retreat and Sweetwater Mesa. The Malibu Colony neighborhood and Civic Center area will remain closed.
– The fire is estimated to be 40% contained.
– The City of Malibu will be hiring a consulting firm to expedite the permitting process for those rebuilding
– In much of Malibu, there is still a need to boil water for 1 minute
– Those affected should register with FEMA immediately and report any damages
– Subsequent rain threats are the biggest concern and there will be teams analyzing areas at risk
– Watch the full meeting here. Useful websites with more information: Wildfirerecovery.org, Malibucity.org, LACwaterworks.org
For Those Who Lost Their Homes
Many dear friends, clients, and family lost their homes and you are in our thoughts. The entire process is hugely overwhelming for many, and we wanted to share an article from the Malibu Times for those who may not know what to do next – click here.
MGG Update
As for our team, Tony’s home on Point Dume is still standing thanks to the selfless actions of his neighbors and Russell’s home in Malibu Park was also left intact. However, Russell’s family lost their home in Agoura Hills. Our team has set up a Go Fund Me on their behalf which can be found here.
On our website, we have done our best to update listing inventory to our knowledge. That said, until Malibu is open and we can personally survey each home, we will not be arranging any showings. As soon as Malibu re-opens, we will be in touch regarding all requests and helping displaced individuals find a home.
Together, We Move Ahead
Want to provide relief for those affected! There are many ways you can offer help! Here are just a few:
– American Red Cross: donate here.
– Humane Society of Ventura County: donate to displaced animals here.
– One Love Malibu: follow on Instagram for news and needs.
– Go Fund Me: look through stories and campaigns here.
In this time of tragedy, please reach out if we can do anything for you and loved ones. The process of rebuilding will be slow and difficult. But, united in love, we will overcome as a community.
Best,
The Mark & Grether Group
